Our plans for the next five years are broader than the Baobab Learning Center.
The BLC’s strategy is to facilitate community involvement and growth and to expand the reach of the
Center’s activities, so the whole community can benefit. We plan to:
Establish grain mills in the three home villages of the BLC children
Develop and staff a Case de Santé (community-level health station)
Provide literacy training to adults
Teach gardening to the children and to families in the home villages
Teach students, and community members entrepreneurship
Dig wells in the home villages of the students to provide clean water and help reduce water-borne diseases.
Garden at BLC Center
This year the children prepared and tilled a garden at the center.
They watered the garden, learned new gardening skills and the
produce was eaten as part of their daily food.
Skills training at library with language training
Children loved the books at the BLC library.
Each night they read from the books there, in French.
Skill training for Out-of-School Youth
Three young persons are in apprenticeship programs learning skills
that will bring them income to improve their lives. The Center hopes to
sponsor more youth in the future.
